The rugged design of the Distributed Discrete I/O Module (DDIO) from Nova Tech allows it to be installed without any special environmental conditioning and to withstand the wide temperature range and electrical noise commonly found in HV substations. Mounting the DDIO where the primary connections are made, typically on circuit breakers and transformers, reduces wiring costs in substation monitoring and control applications. The DDIO can be cabled back to any RTU or PLC supporting the DNP3.0 protocol using an RS232, RS485, fiber optic or Ethernet connection. Combinations of up to 24 inputs or outputs are provided to meet specific requirements.

NEW TOUGHBOOK MODELS
Panasonic Computer Solutions has introduced two new Toughbook computers: The CF- 19 convertible tablet PC and the CF- 30 clamshell notebook (pictured). Both come
equipped with Intel Core Duo processors, daylight-readable screens and rugged features, such as magnesium alloy cases, sealed keyboards and ports, flexible internal connectors and shock-mounting. The units are certified to the MIL-STD-810F standard, tested to withstand drops, shocks, vibration and extremes in temperature. In addition, they are sealed and rated at IP54 (ingress protection) level for water and dust resistance. Both have a battery life of approximately 6 hours, touch screens and multiple wireless options—WLAN, WWAN, GPS and Bluetooth.

POWER QUALITY MONITORING
The new Fluke 1750 Three-Phase Power Recorder provides users with long-term visibility into distribution systems to address intermittent or hard-to-diagnose power quality issues. The 1750 features a capture algorithm that lets users record every measurement on every event on every cycle without first applying thresholds. Its built-in wireless PDA interface provides a window into what the instrument is recording and enables remote configuration in awkward test locations. The 1750 uses IEC 61000 4-30 Class A algorithms for all power quality parameters and is designed to provide a
complete analysis of power quality, harmonics, power and energy with cross-channel current and voltage triggering on all 10 input channels simultaneously. For applications requiring long-term recording, the Fluke 1750 includes internal flash memory for data storage and enables users to download data directly onto the included memory card or transfer data to a computer via an Ethernet connection.
